What is Combat Academy U.K.?

We are a martial arts organisation formed over 17 years ago teaching Jujitsu and kickboxing techniques. We have affiliations to the U.K. Martial Arts Forum ( UK.M.A.F.) as well as the Cobra Martial Arts Assiciation (C.M.M.A). We currently run 27 different classes in the area, and have over 500 current students. Our senior instructor is Ian Gauldie who has over 20 years experience teaching martial arts and held the British Kickboxing and World Self Defence titles.

What do we do?
We teach self-defence techniques based on the martial art of Jujitsu, and kickboxing. We teach in an informal, but disciplined environment using straightforward language and terms that are easy to understand and follow. 

How much does it cost?
£4.00 to £5.00 per session depending on age. There is an annual fee {£27.50 (Junior), £30.00 (Cadet), £30.00 (Adult)} that covers your membership to the club, and insurance. 

Do I have to book?
No. You can just turn up to each class. All our classes accept beginners at any time, you are also welcome to watch sessions before attending a class.

Do I need to enrol?
No, just turn up at the most convenient session, there is no need to book at any of the classes.

Are all the classes open to beginners?
With the exception of the high grade sessions, yes.

What will I learn?
You will learn kickboxing techniques, the various types of kicks and punches, and combinations of both. You will also learn self defence techniques, a variety of throws and how to be thrown safely, holds, such as arm and leg locks, various types of stretches, also about balance and centre of gravity, the various stances and break falls.

Who teaches the classes?
Qualified black belt instructors from Combat Academy U.K. all of whom are first aid qualified, and hold public liability insurance.

Who attends the classes?
We have members from all areas of the community, all ages and occupations. We have members who simply enjoy a regular workout and the social events, and others who train to compete. Everyone in the club is treated equally with respect and friendship regardless of profession, age, religion, or sex. 

Will I get hurt?
No. We teach techniques in a safe environment, on mats, with qualified instructors. We use pads to learn how to kick and punch, and you will only be performing techniques when you are ready and you have been taught how to do safely.

What is the male to female ratio?
At the moment it is about 3 to 1. We have several current female black belts and all classes teach both men and women.

What do I wear?
T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms or shorts to start with. We have a uniform that is specifically designed for our sport that is available to buy from your instructor once you have started.

Does it matter that I have never done anything like this before?
No. We teach absolute beginners from the start. You learn at your own pace supported by our instructors and assistants.

Am I too Young/old?
Our youngest member is 5, our oldest is over 60 years old!
